Transpiration -cohesion Theory

Q: How can water reaches the top of 100 m high redwood tree?
A: 'Transpiration-cohesion Theory'
Evaporation of water in the leaves (through stomata) generates the 'sucking force' that pulls adjacent molecules of water up the leaf surface.
* This column goes from roots to leaves.
* Water moves up by using sun's evaporative energy.
* Plants control evaporation by opening/ closing stomata.
